Oxygen Cleaning
Any system or part performing in an oxygen enriched environment must adhere to stringent oxygen cleaning requirements. Cleanliness in these systems is critical because insufficient oxygen cleaning can result in the ignition of components through friction, mechanical impact or adiabatic compression.
Failure of oxygen cleaning to remove the following contaminants can result in fires or explosion:
- Organic oils, lubricants and greases
- Organic deposits
- Particulate such as rust, dirt, chips, and other welding materials
- Combustible matter
Carolina Filters understands the importance of adequate oxygen cleaning, and utilizes the following methods depending on the specific oxygen cleaning application:
- Mechanical cleaning
- Chemical cleaning
- Solvent cleaning
- Steam Cleaning
- Ultrasonic Cleaning
- Immersion and Scrubbing
- Flushing
Validation of the oxygen cleaning process is conducted with the following methods depending on the specific application:
- Ultraviolet inspection
- Bright light inspection
- Wipe test
- Water break test
Once validation of oxygen cleaning has been completed, parts are appropriately packaged and labeled as " Cleaned for Oxygen Service" and the returned to the customer. |
